The fabulous girls book

Wow! What a super book, and perfect for Christmas presents too! I’m sure girls aged 7-12 years will love this fantastic girly book. It’s crammed with information and tips about how to be the coolest girl in the country and how to really stand out from the crowd.
From cooking scrumptious treats to making your hair curly, there is something for every girl in here! Tips include to wear your hair in a plait on an aeroplane because when you wear a ponytail your hair will go everywhere - it will be uncomfortable when you lean back in your seat. Another tip is examples of some things to put in your hand luggage such as lip balm and hand moisturiser.

Mystical Magic

This is a lovely book that tells you about the history of magic and how to do some tricks including how to make a ball go through a cup. It also tells you about famous magicans and their animals that they used for their tricks. It is medium sized with 157 pages.

I think children aged 6-10 will like this book.

The bullybusters joke book

Are bullies bullying you (or your children)? If they are, this is the book for you! It gives you funny jokes and tells you about ways to stop being being bullied. It also tells you that bullies are the coward, not you ( although they may make you think that you are). It is a thin book with 93 pages. Recommended to 5-8 year olds.

Diary Of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days

Just by reading this book I found out that American books rule!
This is another hilarious tale by Jeff Kinney which got me laughing out loud. I recommend this book to 6-11 year olds. It is quite fat and has 214 pages in it. It also has a bit of the Diary Of a Wimpy Kid Do-It-Yourself book at the end.

The Magic Finger

This book by Roald Dahl is a real winner.
It is suitable for readers that are too old for baby books and not yet ready for most Roald Dahl stories like The Twits.
I don't know where Roald Dahl gets his ideas from.
I wish I had the the same writing style as him.
This book is very thin and it has 56 pages
I recommend this book for 5-6 year olds, but I still liked it and I am 7!

The boy in the dress

This is an incredible book. It is different, funny, clever and sad. I don’t know how I ever lived without it.

The book is about a boy called Dennis. His Mum and his Dad have split up. During this story he gets expelled from his school for wearing a dress and pretending to be his friend Lisa’s French pen pal. Dennis is also the star striker in the school football team, but once he is expelled, he can’t play. What will happen next? Who can save the day? The only way for you to find out is to read it.

Sleepovers

This book is brilliant. It is about a girl called Daisy and she has moved house and school all because of her older sister who has special needs. At school Daisy makes friends with some girls called Emily, Amy and Bella. Emily's best friend is Chloe but Chloe is not a nice sweet girl, Chloe is a mean and rude girl who is mean to Daisy and the others. For their birthdays, each girl has a sleepover party. I won't say much more but I will say that at the end Daisy and Emily become best friends.
I have read this book 7 times. It is quite small with 111 pages. I think that people that are aged 6-9 will like this book best.

My mum's going to explode!

Like most of Jeremy Strong's books, this book is incredibly funny.
My favourite bit was when the pregnant mum of a boy called Nicholas goes on a diet of sausages. It's all she wants to eat.

In this story Nicholas gets a bit fed up and bored. His Grandma and her husband need to find a new house, all Nicholas's mum will cook is sausages and his grandma is a bit deaf.

The spookoscope

Hello, I am very sorry that I haven't posted for a while. This is my review of the spookoscope, a book that I don't like very much.

I’m sorry to say that I didn’t like this book very much because of two characters, Violet Moonbeam, and a very smelly ghost called Norman. I particularly didn’t really like it when Norman tried to haunt two boys called Oli and Skipjack. They were really scared.

My Brother's first review, of Spider School

This is my brother's first review on this blog.
He is only little (4) so please don't be mean about his review.

I like this book because it is funny.

In Kate's new school they eat snails, slugs and spiders. I like it because there is a boy called Robbie in the book. Robbie is my name. This book made me go "boo hoo!" It made me say that because I was sad for Kate.

Lucy's review of Mr Gum and the Goblins.

Hello today a girl from my school called Lucy (who is 6) has written my first guest post. Mr Gum and the Goblins sounds like a good book. I have written a review on a Mr Gum book before (Mr Gum and the Powder Crystals). This is the link to it. Thank you to Lucy!

Mr Gum and the Goblins by Andy Stanton (reviewed by Lucy Ritter)

Hello, my name is Lucy and I am writing about Mr Gum and the Goblins.

Germ Wars

Hello, today the book that I am reviewing is called Germ Wars, by Gill Arbuthnott.
This book tells you about lots of plagues and diseases that there have been in the world and which still are in the world. It also tells you about antibiotics.
Now I know what Ring a Ring a Roses is really about. Once you find out what it means you can find it a bit scary!

Fairy Dreams

When Evie’s grandma has a stroke, her family go to stay in her house. Evie sleeps in grandma’s bed, and discovers that it’s a magic one. Fairies can go under the bed into a tunnel which leads to Fairyland, and two fairies visit her.
Evie is worried that her grandma will die and asks the Fairy Queen if she can take her grandma to meet her. They have an adventure which they like a lot, but it can’t last forever.
I got this book as a birthday present and really wanted to read it because it sounded so good when I read the blurb on the back! It really is good and I love it because it’s such fun, and has a fantastic beginning, middle and end.
The author is really good and she makes things very clear, even the sad bits, which nearly make me cry.
I think the author is trying to say that everyone has to die sometime and that anyone can
get a stroke. I didn’t know about strokes before. This book is quite a big book with 214 pages.
I have read it loads of times because it is so good and I truly recommend it to everyone.
I think that people at the ages of 6-9 year olds will like this book the best.

The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark

Plop is an adorable little baby owl who is afraid of the dark. I think this is a very clever idea, because there is no such thing as an owl who is afraid of the dark and no one really knows how a owl would react if it did feel like that.
Plop’s mother sends him out to find out about the dark, hoping this will stop him being scared. He meets a boy, an old lady, a girl and many other people, and they tell him about the dark and why they like it. He learns lots of things through meeting these people, and he finds out that the dark is actually really exciting.
I love this story and would recommend it 100 percent for 5 -8 year olds, especially animal lovers. I think it’s a very good book, with a very good story. I also think Plop is a funny name. I would only call a raindrop “plop”!

The Worst Witch To The Rescue

Hello, I am sorry that I haven't posted for a long time.
Today I am going to write about the book called the Worst Witch To The Rescue, which is my favourite Worst Witch book.
It is about a girl called Mildred Hubble who goes to a school called Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches.
For once, Mildred's enemy called Ethel Hallow is being nice to Mildred, or is she just pretending?

Magic Kitten Classroom Chaos

This is a magical book. It is about a kitten called Flame and his Uncle Ebony wants to kill him. He goes to a school where a girl is in her first year. Her name is Abi.

Flame helps Abi build her confidence in lots of things and helps her when an older girl called Keera is mean to her. One example of this is when Keera steals a packet of sweets from a sweet shop. The owner of the shop does a roomsearch (it is a boarding school.) to find out who stole the sweets and because Keera hid the sweets under Abi's bed, everyone thinks that she stole them. Abi gets told off, but then Keera gets found out and is grounded.

This book is good because it is funny.

This book made me feel angry and I wanted to get into the story and help Abi change the way that Keera acts.

I recommend this book for 5-8 year olds. I think people that love and believe in magic will love this book.

Harry and Daphne and the amazing reversing powder

This book is really good,
It is about a crocodile called Daphne and her friend Harry.
They live in the jungle with lots of other animals.
There is a family of people living in that jungle and they hunt animals.
One day Harry gets shot and turned into a handbag but someone gives Daphne some magic reversing powder and she uses it to make Harry become alive again.
This story made me cry and it also made me smile.
There are lots of characters in this story - good and bad.
I really recommend this book to 5-7 year olds, mostly people that love animals.
I have read this book 6 times and I find it hard to put down.

Nag Club

This book is fabulous!
It is about a girl called Lola and she is an expert parent nagger.
Lots of Lola's friends want a boggle hat (which are hats that come in all shapes and sizes.)
The problems with those boggle hats is that they cost LOADS of money.
Lola makes a club to show her friend how to nag for a boggle hat.
Everything goes well untill Lola's friends discover a better way to get what they want...
Anne Fine was very clever to think of writing a book like this, and she is also really good at writing funny stories. I also really like the fact that the chapters are named after different kinds of nags.
I really recommend this book for 5-9 year olds.

Allie Finkle’s Rules For Girls

This book, by Meg Cabot, is really good. It is about a girl called Allie and she has a best friend she does not really like.
Allie’s parents say that they are going to move. She does not like the sound of this but her brothers Mark and Kevin really want to move.
Eventually Allie starts getting interested and wants to move but meanwhile she tries to follow the special rules which she has made up to try and make her behave. They are her “rules for girls.”

Charlotte's Web

Today I read Charlotte's Web.
It is really good.
It is about a little girl called Fern who stops her Dad from killing a pig.
The pig was little and weak.
Fern's father gives Fern the pig as a pet and she names it Wilbur.
Once Wilbur is old enough, he gets sold.
He gets sold to Fern's uncle's farm and the Animals tell Wilbur that one day he will get turned into bacon and get eaten.
Wilbur is scared but then he meets a spider called Charlotte and she saves
Wilbur's life...

The Beano Annual 2009

Today I read a book (or rather an annual!) called The Beano Annual 2009.

This annual is great.

It is packed with comic strips and a game.

Not only are the comic strips funny, but they also have wonderful and bright illustrations that make me feel that I am really there (wherever they are!) waching the whole thing happen.

One of the comic strips is called "Ivy the Terrible" and it is about a girl called Ivy who makes up a plan to get a yummy sweet to eat instead of a boring old apple.

The book that I read today

Hello,
Today I read a book called Mr Gum and the Power Crystals by Andy Stanton.
It is a really good and funny book.
In this book the main character is called Polly.
Polly's dog finds two crystals from the year 1559 and they take Polly on lots of adventures.
